5 Book Covers

Some book covers in my collection of books which I particularly like. Sorry for the shitty photos :(

I bought this copy of The Tales of Hoffmann the other day from Books For Amnesty in Bristol. I've read The Sandman before (when I was at university I was given a photocopy of it no less - do I still have that?) but would like to read more. However, the main reason I really bought this copy was the amazing colour pallette and that sinister Rasputin looking guy - alright there mate.

This book of poetry by the musician Richard Skelton was bought for me by a close friend as a very surprising birthday present. The whole book is very beautifully designed and contains some lovely modern landscape poetry. This is one of two books which I keep in a plastic wrapper to protect it from the dirty horrible outside world!

This is a great book! And an amazing cover design. It's was published by the BFI in '78 and the cover is designed by Angela Martin and Les Ruda (whoever you are!) - well done guys, it looks fantastic! It was originally sold at the Arnolfini bookshop for £1.50 (so says the sticker on the back cover!).

I didn't pay very much for this book but it was still too much considering the condition it came in. Oh well - I mended it a bit. It came from a bookshop in Paris where these American guys were complaining about dodgy retail business practices in the city for ages. The figure is based obviously (considering the subject of the book) a sculpture by Neizvestny, don't ask me which one. I haven't read the book :(

I don't read many comics so don't hold my opinion too highly - but this is a firm favourite. The cover is also the best! This guy jumping at you! The cover is also much a brighter orange then it appears in this high quality photo....

..........

Oh hello there.... This is perhaps my least favourite book cover design of a book I own; there are more boring ones for sure, but this one is very strange - it's got that hyper real pencil sketch thing going on with the hand which reminds me of some 70s album art work somewhere which creeped me out as a child. Unfortunately the designer/s is/are not credited anywhere in the book. Sad but probably for the best. Nice font though!
